Monsoon Tea @Wat Ket Branch

Monsoon Tea

Monsoon tea is famous in Bangkok, but I went to the first store in Chiang Mai, the birthplace. There are currently three monsoon tea shops in Chiang Mai. Among them, the original store is located in the Wat Ket area, on the way to Central Chiang Mai after leaving the old town.

Kenneth, the founder of Monsoon Tea, gave us a lecture on tea.

Speaking of tea, many people imagine terraced fields such as Shizuoka, but originally Thailand has tea trees in the jungle, and large tea trees grow thick.

Since tea trees grow in the jungle, monsoon tea is cultivated in a way that takes advantage of nature.

Kenneth’s commitment is thorough, and partner farmers are only allowed to use natural farming methods, and do not use any artificial cultivation methods.

Northern Thailand is an area famous for its opium production. By partnering with farmers in this area, we are protecting the community, and by thoroughly practicing natural farming methods, we are also conserving nature. This is because I feel that farming methods that leave the natural environment to the environment without using any pesticides will lead to better tea cultivation. When I heard about it, I thought it was a really cool concept.

Originally, tea was distributed as something to eat, not to be drunk. The thing called miang was originally tea leaves, and it seems that miang, which is now used as an appetizer, was decided later. It seems that the appetizer wrapped in leaves was also presented to the king with tea in the past.

Monsoon Tea No. 1 offers a food menu using tea as an ingredient in the tea salon. Steam the tea leaves and soak them in water. After a certain period of time, it can be used as food. It’s a delicious meal that blends with the Northern Thai menu and is a must try.

We had chicken mian roll fried 150B, mian nam prik 90B, and raw green tea spicy salad 150B, all of which were delicious northern style dishes.

If you come all the way to the north, how about trying Thai food using traditional tea, which is unique to the north?

After talking with Kenneth, I learned a little more about tea.

You can not only drink tea, but also have it. I was able to learn about Thai culture, and it was a studyful monsoon tea stay.
